Rev. Brooks Morton
Rev. Brooks Morton is an ordained Full Elder of The UMC in the NWTXCONF. Brooks graduated from Bullard HS (but lived in Teaselville). Following High School, Brooks graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute (no, he is not a veteran), then returned to College Station and Texas A&M University where he earned a BS in Agricultural Development. At TAMU, Brooks was called into pastoral/teaching ministry. Upon graduation, he moved to Wilmore, KY to attend Asbury Theological Seminary. While at ATS, Brooks met Kristin Shamburger of Lubbock via a mutual friend. They married in 2002 and in the following year, Ethan was born (2003). While at ATS, Brooks earned the Master of Divinity and the Master of Theology in World Mission & Evangelism. Upon graduating, the Morton’s returned home to begin ministry in NWTX. Since 2004, Brooks has been appointed to Anson (2004), Shallowater (2007), Idalou (2010-2018), Benjamin & Knox City (2020). While in Shallowater, Wyatt & J.D. were born (2009). Brooks is excited to begin a new year of ministry with FUMC Muleshoe, working alongside Angela (Carter) and the many gifted Lay Methodists of Muleshoe.
Some other things to know about Brooks ... Brooks is completing his Ph.D. in Theology at the University of Birmingham (UK) but is more proud of working in Wireline Perforation for 14 months--actually--surviving the roads around Pecos, TX (HWY 285). Yes, he had some very close calls. The Morton’s love to hike, camp, and ski in the mountains, pilgrimage to Possum Kingdom, and pour their lives into Ethan, Wyatt, and J.D. Ethan has a fish, all claim the cats (Ladyflower and Prince the Cat), but first in their hearts is their beloved Mini-Schnauzer, Heidi Happy Morton. Brooks (Kristin when possible) looks forward to serving FUMC Muleshoe, but most importantly, building life-long, lasting friendships.
Angela Carter is serving First United Methodist Church as a lay pastor. Having served in a lay leadership position on staff at LakeRidge United Methodist Church in Lubbock, she gained experience teaching Bible classes, leading retreats, hosting the contemporary service, and working closely with the college ministry program. She is honored and humbled to serve alongside co-pastor Brooks Morton in this new pastoral role.
Prior to ministry, Angela spent 19 years in public education - a “boots on the ground” type of ministry. She taught English, Speech, public speaking, and Academic Decathlon during her tenure, but found the most joy loving on and encouraging kids, many of whom she still keeps in touch with today.
Angela graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1995 with a B.S. in Education and found her home in Lubbock just two months later. She met her husband Brian, a Texas Tech graduate and Lubbock native, and they married in 1998. Brian and Angela are very proud of their two children, Scout and Will. Their daughter Scout is named after the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, a true testament to Angela’s love of literature. Scout graduated from Lubbock High School in 2019 and is currently at Texas Tech University pursuing a degree in Sport Management. Their son Will is a senior at Monterey High and plays varsity tennis for the Plainsmen. Their most beloved (they would all agree) member of the family is their Australian Shepherd Jake. The family spends most of their time together at Texas Tech football and basketball games during fall and winter and boating on Lake Allen Henry in the summer. They also carve out time for snow-skiing and snowboarding and playing tennis, but not at the same time.
Angela takes on this new role of pastor with excitement, hope, and awe of the Lord’s goodness and looks forward to being a part of this family in Christ.
Victoria was born & raised in Houston, TX; she graduated from Texas Tech University and married her Muleshoe native husband, Robby, in 2013. After a 4 years of teaching French in Dumas, TX, the young couple and their son, Lincoln, moved to Muleshoe in order to be closer to their family. Shortly after in February 2018, their second son, Nolan, was born.
She began as the FUMC Youth Minister in Janurary 2019, and continues to teach at Muleshoe High School. In addition to these duties, she will complete her Master’s degree for Principalship in December 2020. Victoria loves working with the youth of the community and enjoys how they challenge her to grow her own faith.
